Burnaby is our home location, which makes it the one place where French lessons can run in the same room. For language learning that matters more than it does for most subjects, because conversation is the part learners skip when it feels awkward, and it feels least awkward sitting across a table from someone.
We teach beginners through to students preparing for proficiency assessments, and a good share of our Burnaby learners are adults rather than school students — people learning for travel, for family, or because a bilingual requirement has appeared at work.
Reading and grammar transfer perfectly well to a screen. Speaking is different: hesitation, mouth shape, and the small corrections a tutor makes in the moment all land more naturally face to face, and learners are measurably less self-conscious about getting it wrong.
That said, plenty of our Burnaby students choose online for convenience and do very well. The format is worth choosing deliberately rather than by default, and we will tell you honestly if we think one suits a particular learner better.
Adult beginners tend to arrive apologising, convinced they have left it too late or that they were never good at languages. Neither is usually true. What is true is that adults learn differently from children: they want the underlying pattern explained rather than absorbed by repetition, and they get frustrated by the pace of a class aimed at teenagers.
We take advantage of that. Adult lessons introduce grammar as an explanation rather than a drill, and push speaking early, because the fastest way past self-consciousness is to have already been wrong a hundred times in a low-stakes room.

The free consultation helps us understand the student’s current challenges, goals and course requirements so we can recommend an appropriate tutoring plan. It is an assessment and planning conversation, not a full tutoring lesson.

At our Burnaby location, which is why Burnaby is the one city where we offer face-to-face lessons. Families elsewhere in Metro Vancouver are generally taught online, though they are welcome to come to Burnaby if the trip suits them.
No. Adult learners are taught either one-to-one or in adult groups, because the pace and the way grammar is explained are genuinely different. Most of our adult beginners are learning for travel, family or work.
With regular weekly lessons and a little practice between them, most adult beginners manage simple everyday exchanges within a few months. The limiting factor is almost always speaking practice rather than vocabulary, which is why we push conversation from the first lesson.
Tell us about the learner and a member of our team will respond within 24 hours.
