Meet Niti: English and ESL Tutor

Niti holds a Bachelor’s degree in Science and Master’s degrees in Education and English. Across more than 20 years of teaching, she has taught Mathematics, Science and English through Grade 10. That range helps her recognize when language, reading, foundational knowledge or assignment structure is creating the difficulty.

She adapts explanations and practice to the individual student rather than using one fixed approach for every learner. Families can discuss the student’s grade, current English level and BC curriculum needs during the free assessment session.

Interactive Teaching, Guided Practice and Independent Work

Niti actively teaches and explains concepts, demonstrates examples and encourages questions. Students then complete guided practice before working independently, so independent work follows understanding rather than replacing instruction.

She does not simply hand students worksheets and expect them to discover the method alone. The aim is to make the language or skill clear, practise it with support and then check whether the student can apply it without prompting.

Assessment, Weekly Assignments and Mistake Review

Before regular lessons, Niti uses an informal assessment and a discussion with the student to understand what already feels comfortable and what needs more attention. This is used to plan lessons around the child’s actual learning level.

Regular assignments can reinforce the topics covered each week. Niti reviews the student’s work, discusses mistakes and explains where the reasoning or language went wrong, with the goal of preventing the same misunderstanding from repeating.

English as a Second Language and ESL Tutoring in Vancouver

ESL tutoring builds practical language while supporting the English students encounter in school. Depending on the learner, sessions may combine pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structure, reading comprehension, conversation and guided writing.

The tutor identifies whether a difficulty comes from English-language development, an unfamiliar assignment format or a specific reading and writing skill. That distinction helps the student practise the right thing instead of simply receiving more worksheets.

BC Curriculum Reading and Writing

For students following the BC curriculum, tutoring can use current classroom texts and assignments to develop comprehension, evidence selection, paragraph structure, revision and clear written expression. Younger students work on age-appropriate foundations; older students build the longer responses expected through Grades 8–10.

Tutoring teaches the process and provides feedback, but the student remains responsible for producing and submitting their own schoolwork.
