Biology 12 narrows from the whole living world down to one organism, and then goes deep. It is a favourite course for students heading toward health sciences, nursing, kinesiology and medicine — which also means the grade often carries admission weight.
The depth is what surprises people. It is not enough to know that the kidney filters blood; you are expected to follow a substance through each stage and explain what happens to it and why. That is a level of detail Biology 11 never asked for.
Biology 12 is taught unit by unit, and students often study it that way too — which is exactly where marks are lost. The exam likes questions that cross systems, because homeostasis is the point: the circulatory system is only interesting in terms of what it delivers and removes.
We deliberately study across the boundaries. Trace oxygen from the air to a working muscle and back out as carbon dioxide, and three units connect into one story that is far harder to forget.
Many of the Vancouver students we work with are aiming at health-science pathways at UBC or elsewhere, where Biology 12 is both a prerequisite and part of a competitive average. First-year courses also assume this material, so learning it for retention is worth more than learning it for the exam.

Amazing tutoring experience! Chemistry was my weakest subject, but the classes made it so easy to understand. I got an A on my final exam.

The best way to know whether our teaching style is right for your child is to experience it directly.
Have questions? We've answered the most common questions students and parents ask before enrolling.
Because it trades breadth for depth. Biology 11 asks what a system does; Biology 12 asks you to explain each step of how, and to connect it to the systems around it. Less material, examined far more demandingly.
It is a prerequisite for many of them, and the grade usually forms part of a competitive admission average. It is also assumed background in first-year physiology, so gaps tend to reappear at a costly moment.
Yes. The nervous and endocrine systems are the two we are asked about most, and plenty of students book targeted help for a single unit rather than the whole course.
